Youth take action in Chanute

More than 85 Kansas East Conference youth and adults participated in a day of mission in Chanute Oct. 6. The 2012 Christians in Action event was hosted by Rev. Dyton Owen, pastor at Chanute First United Methodist Church, and the youth pastor, Cindy Findley.

The youth washed windows at an adult-care facility, carved pumpkins with mentally challenged adults, spread 40 yards of mulch on two playgrounds, visited and decorated doors at a nursing home, cleaned flower beds and finished building a deck for a Chanute First member who is fighting cancer.

Worship was led by Owen and Jordan Larkin, Shawnee UMC and CCYM youth convener. The text was Galatians 6:2, and the participants discussed carrying one another’s burdens. Each youth group presented a skit as a part of the worship offering.

Girard, Parsons Wesley, Neodesha, Caney, Americus, Emporia First, Manhattan First, Silver Lake, Hiawatha First, Baldwin First, Lyndon, Olathe Aldersgate and Shawnee United Methodist churches sent participants to the event.
